Un étudiant, Christian Bergas, se voit obligé de quitter sa petite amie, Jeannette, rappelé par sa famille qui lui prépare un riche mariage. Mais il se ravise et avoue la vérité à sa tante, Mlle Béatrice. Le père et la tante vont trouver le jeune homme à Paris. Un ami complaisant, Hubert, présente à M. Bergas Jeannette comme une secrétaire éventuelle. Elle est acceptée et se rend bien vite indispensable par ses qualités de travail et de dévouement. Chacun l'accapare, Hubert lui-même la recherche, ce qui excite la jalousie de Mlle Béatrice. Pour arranger toutes choses et ses propres affaires, Christian suggère à Hubert de demander en mariage sa tante. Quant à lui, il épousera Jeannette.
